Moxa Therapy

What is Moxa Acupuncture (Moxibustion)?

Moxa acupuncture, also known as moxibustion, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians. It is used to enhance the effects of acupuncture, promote circulation, and warm the body to expel cold and dampness.
Moxibustion can be used alone or in combination with acupuncture needles to enhance the therapeutic effects.

How Does Moxa Acupuncture Work?

Moxa (dried mugwort) is burned near specific acupuncture points to generate heat and stimulate energy flow (Qi). This method helps improve circulation, boost the immune system, and relieve pain.
The treatment process involves:

  • Selecting acupuncture points based on the patient's condition

  • Burning moxa to generate warmth and stimulate Qi flow

  • Combining with acupuncture needles (optional) for enhanced effects

  • Warming and activating the meridians, reducing stagnation, and improving energy balance

     Benefits of Moxa Acupuncture

  • Warms the Body & Dispels Cold

  • Moxibustion is used for conditions caused by cold and dampness, such as arthritis, menstrual cramps, and digestive disorders.

  • It promotes Yang energy, which is essential for warmth and vitality.

  • Improves Circulation & Blood Flow

  • Helps in stagnant conditions like pain, muscle stiffness, and fatigue.

  • Used to increase circulation in people with poor blood flow, such as those with Raynaud’s syndrome.

  •  Boosts the Immune System

  • Moxa acupuncture enhances the body's defensive Qi (Wei Qi), making it beneficial for preventing colds, flu, and infections.

  • Helps with Women’s Health & Fertility

  • Used to treat menstrual pain, irregular cycles, and infertility.

  • Most famous for turning breech babies during pregnancy by stimulating BL-67 (Zhiyin) acupuncture point.

  • Pain Relief & Anti-Inflammatory Effects

  • Effective for arthritis, joint pain, lower back pain, and sciatica.

  • Reduces inflammation and speeds up tissue healing.

  • Enhances Digestion & Metabolism

  • Stimulates the digestive system, helping with bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and weak digestion.
