Moxa Therapy
What is Moxa Acupuncture (Moxibustion)?
Moxa acupuncture, also known as moxibustion, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians. It is used to enhance the effects of acupuncture, promote circulation, and warm the body to expel cold and dampness.
Moxibustion can be used alone or in combination with acupuncture needles to enhance the therapeutic effects.
How Does Moxa Acupuncture Work?
Moxa (dried mugwort) is burned near specific acupuncture points to generate heat and stimulate energy flow (Qi). This method helps improve circulation, boost the immune system, and relieve pain.
The treatment process involves:
-
Selecting acupuncture points based on the patient's condition
-
Burning moxa to generate warmth and stimulate Qi flow
-
Combining with acupuncture needles (optional) for enhanced effects
-
Warming and activating the meridians, reducing stagnation, and improving energy balance
